Filters and gels

Filters and gels will transform a bad show into a great scene. Theatrical lighting
technicians utilize them as covers for par64 lights cans in the musicals theater, helping the enhancing of the scene on stage lighting up stage props and starring actors. They also apply them in photography jobs, to help even out the ambient lighting levels of filter temperatures from different colored lighting sources.stage lighting Filters
Filters assist in making picture perfect photography and a brilliant Theatrical show. These studio lighting gels will provide any production scene taking place a totally different view. The name gels comes from gelatin and that’s what was used in it original manufacturing. Presently, gel filters are manufactured using transparent polyester. They prepare a batch of chemical solvents, flame retardant chemicals and industrial dyes which makes a colored lacquer. A test is performed on the lacquers’ viscosity by pouring the lacquer mix in a vessel made of brass with a small perfection hole in the bottom of the vessel. When the lacquer drains through the perfection it’s timed on a stopwatch the time it takes.Filters and disco gels colorsIf it does flow through rapidly, it means the liquid lacquer thickness resistance of its fluid is thin and runny, and draining through very slow a very thick mixture. A consistent flow is the perfect lacquer mix about the thickness of engine oil. The consistency of the lacquer is critical, that is the reason why every filter batch sample will undergo stringent quality testing. If it’s not corrected, it will not act as a mordant to the clear polyester sheet. After preparation of the lacquer coating a film of polyester is placed in a machine for coating. The machines roller picks up lacquer from a soaking tray below spreading it across the polyester. A roller bar evens out the spreading removes any excess lacquer, which dries very rapidly. Each run of color filter production must be the same from the first to the last run. Regularly testing the color lacquers on clear polyester swatches. Any mismatching of the gel colors even a slight amount when used together gives a makeshift finish to the display.
light color chartWhen using different colors of filter gels many different lighting effects can be created.A red orangey filter produces a warm light for indoor lighting this is helpful when working with cameras and photography studios. A green filter is good for lighting up the monster in at stage show. Blue gels can be used for a cold winter scene. They test the gel swatch by holding it over a fire and if it doesn’t catch fire, it proves that the filters are now ok to use in hot lights cans and spots of the Clubhouse, fashion catwalk, theater stage and screen. Photography lens color changer filters are prepared using a different manufacturing process, special optical plastic sheet is placed in to a dye and water dipping tray. The optical plastic sheet becomes porous in hot water which allows penetration of the colored dye. After the optical plastic has cooled down the color dye is fixed into the optical sheet. The more time it stays in the dye tray the stronger the mordent will be and the richer the color fix. Some plastic filter sheets are only half covered in dye so exposure of light is then reduce for the imaging of the camera. The human eye can adjust its self to multiple lighting situations with no effort at all.camera filtersThe camera sight is assisted by using a range of optical colored Filters to do the same job as the eye of a human. When cutting to size, colored filter sheets they are place in plastic cover which stops the scratching. Now the filters for camera and disco’s are practically finished for a close up photo and party night. The next thing that is done is the trademark stamp and the color filter code number. This is print on the gel using an ink jet printer similar to the printer that does to sell by date on your can of Heinz beans. After coding it’s wrapped in to a plastic bag by a packing machine. The finish colored gels are wound onto a tube of card board then pushed into the bag by the machines ram. The filters are now ready to be ship out to the retail shops selling photo equipment and Stageing retailers providing the latest in concert Solutions.
